Subject: Club Project - Rotary Club in Palestine

To Members of the Rotary Club of Colorado Springs

This is a follow-on to our recent report on the progress of our club's year-long World Peace project to establish a Rotary Club in Ramallah, Palestine. The Rotary International Board will consider "extension into Palestine" at its Board meeting in January 2010.  As a part of that consideration, RI Director Phil Silvers, at the request of our club, visited Palestine for four days in November 2009 to assess the progress of the group that is forming the club, under the co-sponsorship of both Colorado Springs and the Petra Rotary Club of Amman, Jordan.

Attached are two documents for your info:  1) Reporting in Arabic from an article in the Al Quds University newspaper, and 2) an English translation of that article.

Tomorrow we will discuss our project with R.I. President John Kenny when he visits for the World Peace and Understanding Luncheon.

I hope you find the article interesting.  Any questions?  Please call me 488-8142.

Thanks for your continuing interest and support.

Wally Miller and Ted Beckett

Hello Colorado Springs Rotarians, This is no "tall tale!"

Now that the so-successful Butterfly Project has been completed with
Imagination Celebration, here is another opportunity to positively impact
schools throughout
El Paso County.  You have already heard some
announcements regarding the value of story telling to children.  Here is
your chance to develop your talent and benefit kids.

"Tale Tellers Troupe, Purveyors of Imagination & Adventure" is a
year-long part of Imagination Celebration.  Troupe members tell 2-3
stories in a 30-minute session in a K-8 school (you select your grade
preferences), all scheduled through
School District 11.

You are welcome to begin story telling at any time, or just to come and
explore the possibility.  The Troupe provides training, story materials,
and a monthly meeting each second Saturday.  The next meeting will be
10:00 AM Saturday, Nov. 14 at the Senior Center, 1418 N. Hancock. A lunch
meeting on Monday, December 7 will feature members telling stories, if you
would like to observe first-hand. The Troupe is now seeking additional
members.  Any interested Rotarian is warmly invited to attend, spouses as
well.  There is no cost to you nor to the schools.

For more information, please contact LAUREL McLEOD or MATT OTTEN.  The
contact person for Tale Tellers Troupe is Carolyn Ryan, 598-3446.  In
thanking the Troupe for their excellent work, fellow Rotarian Terry Bishop
reported that last year Troupe members gave 350 presentations to 7,985
students.

Please consider joining this intergenerational tradition on behalf of
Rotary and the education of children.  Thanks!

The Colorado Springs Rotary Club donated $500 to Rotary District 5910 which was hit very heavily by Hurricane Ike. Rotary District 5910 includes Texas City, Galveston, Port Arthur, Beaumont and Orange along the South and North to Palestine.  All the clubs in this district were heavily affected by the hurricane.  Colorado Springs Rotary is pleased to send Community Service Funds to Rotary District 5910 to support hurricane relief.

Attention All Members!

Please join us on Wednesdays this Winter.  As in the past, members of the Snowsports Fellowship will be Skiing or Snowboarding on Wednesdays at Copper Mountain.  This Fellowship is open to all Club members. Your guests such as family members, friends, business clients, and Rotarians from other Clubs are welcome.  There are no initiation fees or member dues associated with this Fellowship.

New this year.  Starting on Jan 2nd, we will be going to the mountains every Wednesday through April 9th.  As in the past, the first regular trip is scheduled on the Wednesday after Thanksgiving, Nov 28th.  Thereafter, we will go on Dec 5th and 12th followed by a Holiday break until Jan 2nd.

If conditions permit, we will also have an eager beavers event on Wednesday, November 14th.  Contact Jim Caro at 473-5362 if you are interested.

Trips will depart at 6:30 AM from the parking lot adjacent to Daylight Donuts, 3105 West Colorado Ave.  As always, road and weather conditions are considered and may affect trip plans.  Driver and pasasenger safety is the top consideration.  Trips are intended to be enjoyable, not life and death challenges.  Decisions to cancel or delay deparure are typically collaborative.

Reciprocal carpooling is the norm.  New this year,  passengers are asked to contribute $10.00 to the driver to help cover fuel expenses.

New this year, Matt Otten will be co-chairman of the Fellowship along with Jim Caro.
